Industrial Automation debugging, test, and management. By offering a complete set of integrated capabilities, Workbench enables organizations to standardize on a common environment for device software. Looking forward, Intel is working with various Alliance members to deliver these software capabilities on additional hardware platforms. Intel is also working with Alliance members to deliver a software-only ver- sion of the kit. Figure 4. Available and Supported Through the Alliance The Intel Industrial Solutions System Consolidation Series is available only through authorized distrib- utors. These include Associate Alliance members Arrow and Avnet, as well as other distributors in Asia, the US, and worldwide, such as Mouser. In addition to selling the kits, many distributors offer services from design assistance to post-sales sup- port. These services can speed development and help OEMs focus on the areas where they have unique expertise. The initial kits include production-ready software and hardware. The kits also contain essential software and tools including: • Wind River Hypervisor – This embedded hypervisor provides the capability to consolidate multiple applications and OSs onto a single multi-core platform to decrease hardware size, weight, power, and cost (SWaP-C). It provides low latency, determinism, and real-time performance – all in a small footprint. Wind River Hypervisor enables the consolidation of legacy applications with added new capabilities and mixed safety and security levels. • Wind River VxWorks – This RTOS provides scalability, reliability, and real-time performance with comprehensive multi-core processor support, including asymmetric multiprocessing (AMP) and symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) OS configurations and hardware-optimized multi-core acceleration capabilities. VxWorks ensures high performance along with deterministic behavior. Key features include a tunable memory footprint, hard real-time performance, state-of-the-art memory protection, advanced multi-core processor support, and extensive connectivity options. Together, these features deliver the capabilities and support demanded by mission-critical, connected, intelligent systems. • Wind River Linux 5.0 – A commercial-grade Linux solution for embedded device development, Wind River Linux combines the necessary elements to enable customers to build and support highly differentiated devices: an optimized run-time; a flexible, scalable build system; pre-integrated middleware packages for specific device types; an integrated development environment (IDE); and an open-source toolkit adapted and extended for embedded development. • Wind River Workbench – A complete set of developer tools based on the Eclipse framework, Wind River Workbench enables developers to quickly configure OSs, analyze and tune software, and debug the entire system. It offers an end-to-end, open standards-based tool suite for software design, development, For example, distributors can recommend and supply supporting com- ponents like sensors and software. They can also assist in the design, integration, and validation of the overall solution – including certifica- tion for safety and emissions. During the deployment phase, many distributors offer manufacturing services, global logistics, and supply chain management. Some dis- tributors even offer sell-through models that allow OEMs to leverage the distributor’s global sales organization. Finally, some distributors offer post-sales customer services like call centers and field service. Distributors can also provide end-of-life (EOL) support such as asset recovery, refurbishment, and recycling.
