Internet of Things Connect Legacy Devices to the Internet of Things Rapid Design with Integrated Gateway and Cloud Platform By Robert Andres, Chief Marketing Officer, Eurotech, and Adam Burns, IoT Gateway Product Marketing Director, Intel Corporation W ith its potential to transform nearly every industry, the Internet of Things (IoT) provides significant opportunities for businesses to enhance productivity and efficiency, improve real-time decision making, solve critical problems, and develop new services. However, according to IMS Research, 85 percent of today’s equipment remains isolated in legacy infrastructure. To fulfill the business potential of the IoT, these legacy devices must be connected. The Intel ® Gateway Solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT), deployment of intelligent devices and end-to-end analytics. Close developed in conjunction with Wind River and McAfee, provides a collaboration with Intel and each other enables Alliance members pre-validated gateway solution for seamlessly interconnecting these to innovate with the latest technologies, helping developers deliver legacy devices and securing data flow between devices and the first-in-market solutions. cloud. On top of this foundation, Eurotech has added a multi-service software stack, the Everyware Software Framework (ESF). Based on a standard Open Service Transportation Gateway initiative (OSGi*) framework and Java* Security & Service Gateway Surveillance coding environment, ESF enables developers and Service OEMs to quickly develop, prototype, and deploy Gateway secure solutions for IoT services and applications. This article looks at the features and benefits of the Intel Gateway Solutions for the IoT and Eurotech ESF. We show how these components combine to form an applica- tion-ready platform for collecting and analyzing data in real time in the cloud (Figure 1). We then discuss how developers and system integrators can use this IT-centric integration platform to reduce risk, time to market, and total cost of ownership (TCO). The article will also show how Eurotech, McAfee, and Wind River are working together as Associate members of the Intel ® Internet of Things Solutions Alliance (Intel ® IoT Solutions Alliance).
